Assyrian notes

Eratosthenes was in Rhinokoroura and said water flowed under the mountains and lakes which is a bit far fetched according to Strabo.
Babylon was superceded by Seleukia. Ninos founded Nineveh in Atoria and was razed after the Syrians were beaten. His wife was Semiramis.
Alexander busied himself with the Babylonian canals and opened new ones when old ones clogged and failed. They needed to be constantly balanced. Reeds were used for sails and baskets. Reeds were encouraged. No tiles because of less rain.
Tomb of Belos was a large pyramid in Babylon a stadia big. Babylon is deserted and one poet said of 'Megalopolis in Arcadia' that the "Great city is now a great desert". Alexander was always nosing about in the tombs of old kings. He liked to breeze up on history as a mark of respect.
Babylon founded by Queen Semiramis.
Chaldains were good astronomers.
Alexander secured victory in the battle of Arbela. Gaugamela in Atoria known by Darius III as House of the Camel as it was a convenient place of sustenance for the camel's on their journeys through the Skythian desert. The Macedonians thought it was a shabby place.
Hanging gardens had stairways up to arched vaults and trees planted in large cuboid platforms all watered by the Euphrates by way of large screws.
Opis is the main emporium of Seleukia.
There's a Persian song that enumerates 360 benefits from palm.
Eratosthenes mentions the snowy mountains of Armenia and Strabo corrects him on a few details such as mountains in higher latitudes have more snow than ones of the same height in lower latitudes. Obvious to us.
In Babylonia Alexander supposedly poured naphtha on a bathing boy in an experiment and set him on fire with a lamp and subsequently lot of water was required to douse him and save him. They say naphtha is notoriously stubborn to put out and you need a massive amount of water to quench the flames. Nasty thing to do. Asphalt mainly in lamps.
Kossaians were archers.
Crassus was captured by Sourenas the Parthian commander after Antonius used the Armenian king as an advisor but was betrayed by him and Crassus was killed at Sinnaka during this war but later king Phraates made peace with Caesar Sebastus and offered trophies to support his friendship. His children were cared for in Rome.
Edessa is the sacred city where the Syrian goddess Atargatis is honoured. Near Anthemousia in Mesopotamia not far from Bambyke. Euphrates Tigris Basilios and Aborras are main rivers.
The Roman Pompeius gave Tigranes the Great the region of the Gordyians after it was taken from the Armenians. There was a triple city with large citadels at Pinaka.
